"Whatever you do for the least of my brothers and sisters, you do for me" (Matthew 25:40).
Through its outreach efforts, our parish Social Services Ministry is committed to answering the Gospel call to serve our neighbor by providing a variety of services to assist those in need.
Our Social Services Ministry maintains a parish food pantry. Its outreach projects include an annual Thanksgiving food drive; a "Giving Tree" at Christmas; food distribution at Christmas and Easter; providing frozen dinner entrees to individuals in need of assistance who come to our rectory; and for those who go to the Father English Center in Paterson; and collecting personal toiletries and hats and gloves for residents of Eva's Village, also in Paterson.
The Ministry conducts the annual "Operation Rice Bowl" drive in the parish and works closely with other parish organizations and ministries. It is involved in ecumenical efforts on the local level. In cooperation with the Hawthorne Ecumenical Council (St. Clement's Episcopal Church, First Reformed Church, Rea Avenue Reformed Church, & the United Methodist Church), for example, we recruit parish volunteer work crews to help build houses for Paterson Habitat for Humanity at various times throughout the year. We have also assisted the Passaic County Interfaith Hospitality Network in support of that agency's commitment to provide temporary housing to the homeless.
All are welcome and invited to participate in the rewarding work of our Ministry.
Planning meetings are held throughout the year, you may attend as many or as few as your schedule allows.
Meeting dates appear in the Bulletin.
